Terms of Use

Animae Mundi Effective date: April 2026

A Note Before We Begin

This website is a threshold.

It is where Animae Mundi’s programs, ideas, and invitations first meet the world, where a visitor becomes a reader, a reader becomes an applicant, a participant becomes part of something larger than any single encounter. We have built it with care, and we ask that you engage with it in the same spirit.

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the Animae Mundi website located at www.animaemundi.com (the “Website”), including all content, features, programs, and services made available through it. By accessing or using the Website, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify you through the Website or by email. Your continued use of the Website following any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

4. Content Published on the Website — The Commons

The Commons is Animae Mundi’s public-facing intellectual platform: a space for essays, long-form reflections (Traces), audio conversations (Echoes), and records of our symposia, workshops, and public programs (Practices)

4.1 Authorship and Attribution

Content published in the Commons is authored by Animae Mundi, its fellows, mentors, contributors, and invited thinkers. All content is attributed to its authors. Authors retain their moral rights in all works published under their names.

4.2 No Implied Endorsement

The views expressed in contributions to the Commons are those of their individual authors and do not necessarily represent the views of Animae Mundi as an institution. Publishing a contribution does not constitute Animae Mundi’s endorsement of any position, opinion, or claim contained therein.

4.3 Accuracy and Currency

We endeavour to ensure that all content published on the Website is accurate, thoughtful, and well-considered at the time of publication. However, ideas evolve. We do not warrant that all content will remain current, complete, or free from error at all times, and we reserve the right to update, correct, or remove content at any time without notice.

5. Fellowship Applications

The Animae Mundi Fellowship application process is conducted through forms and submission portals on this Website.

5.1 Application Materials

All materials you submit as part of a Fellowship application — including your statement of purpose, portfolio, writing samples, and references — are submitted for the purpose of evaluation by the Animae Mundi selection process. Submission does not create any obligation on Animae Mundi to accept, shortlist, or respond to your application beyond what is set out in our published application guidelines.

5.2 Confidentiality of Deliberations

The deliberations of the selection jury and any evaluations or assessments made in connection with your application are strictly confidential. We are not obligated to provide individual feedback on unsuccessful applications.

5.3 Accuracy of Information

By submitting an application, you confirm that all information and materials provided are accurate, complete, and your own original work, or that you have the rights to submit them. Any misrepresentation may result in the rejection or withdrawal of an application, or the termination of a Fellowship.

5.4 Intellectual Property in Applications

You retain ownership of all intellectual property in the materials you submit as part of your application. By submitting, you grant Animae Mundi a limited, non-exclusive licence to review, assess, and retain your application materials for the purposes of the selection process and for our internal records, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

6. Event Registrations

Animae Mundi uses its Website to manage registrations for its public and private programs, including Convergences, Labs & Studios workshops, and 3rd Horizon gatherings.

6.1 Registration and Attendance

Registration for an event constitutes a commitment to attend. Where events are offered free of charge, late cancellation or non-attendance without notice is discouraged, as it affects our ability to welcome others. Where events involve fees, our cancellation and refund policy will be clearly communicated at the time of registration.

6.2 Recording and Documentation

Some Animae Mundi events are recorded, photographed, or documented for archival and publication purposes. Where this is the case, it will be communicated in advance. By attending, you consent to being included in such documentation in your capacity as a participant. If you have specific concerns, please contact us before the event.

6.3 Conduct at Events

Animae Mundi’s events are spaces of genuine intellectual inquiry, held in a spirit of mutual respect, curiosity, and openness. All participants are expected to engage accordingly. We reserve the right to remove any participant whose conduct is disruptive, disrespectful, or harmful to others, without refund where applicable.

7. Third-Party Links and Resources

The Website may contain links to external websites, publications, partner institutions, and resources that Animae Mundi believes are of value to its community. These links are provided for convenience and do not constitute an endorsement of the linked content, organisations, or views.

We have no control over the content or practices of third-party websites and accept no responsibility for them. We encourage you to read the terms of use and privacy policies of any external site you visit.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Website and all content, programs, and services offered through it are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Animae Mundi disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to:

  • Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement

  • Warranties that the Website will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components

  • Warranties as to the accuracy, completeness, currency, or reliability of any content on the Website

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any warranty or liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Animae Mundi, its founder, team members, fellows, mentors, partners, and advisors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Website or any content or services offered through it — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of opportunity — even if Animae Mundi has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Animae Mundi’s total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Website shall not exceed the amount, if any, you have paid to Animae Mundi in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms shall exclude or limit Animae Mundi’s liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Animae Mundi, its founder, team members, fellows, mentors, partners, advisors, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • Your use of the Website in violation of these Terms

  • Any content you submit, post, or transmit through the Website

  • Your violation of any applicable law or the rights of any third party

11. Privacy

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Use are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Arab Emirates, including the applicable laws and regulations of the Ajman Free Zone.

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms, or your use of the Website, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of the United Arab Emirates, unless otherwise required by applicable law.

Where you are located in a jurisdiction that provides mandatory consumer protections that cannot be excluded by agreement, those protections remain available to you notwithstanding this clause.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable under applicable law, that provision shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed from these Terms if modification is not possible. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms of Use, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Animae Mundi with respect to your use of the Website, and supersede all prior or contemporaneous understandings, agreements, or representations.
